I love New York City at Christmas time... I do NOT love New York City traffic at Christmas time. For the past week I have had to drive from the GWB to the Battery Tunnel... in the morning... during rush hour. I know what you’re thinking... nightmare no matter the season. But throw in the extra tourists (to add to the Uber’s on the road)... a snow squall (to cause some extra accidents)... and the coldest day of the season (to freeze everything- causing ice particles to fall everywhere... including the GWB which had to SHUT DOWN
for hours) and it was quite a week. I’m proud to say... as an experienced NYC driver... behind the wheel of my little Honda Civic... and armed with an audio book... I made it on time... even early... everyday! Now there were a few Scrooges on the road... like that one guy on the BQE who didn’t merge correctly (take turns people!) and then got mad at me! And then there were some jolly old souls... like the man on the West Side Highway who let me get in front of him. The sights of the city made navigating terrible traffic... kind of a joyful drive. It was so nice to see the lit up Christmas trees in the windows of people’s apartments... and the decorations on the skyscrapers. But it still would have been better if Santa could have lent me his sleigh.... 🎅🏻
