DC Shin Splints

Writer's picture: Christine PersichetteChristine Persichette

I love my flip flops. I have pink Crocs flip flops that I wear as soon as I get my first pedicure of the season. I wear them until Halloween. I wear them with everything. I wear them everywhere. They’re very comfortable. But wearing them for 3 days while touring DC was probably not the smartest thing to do!

My shins were killing me when I got home! I researched the pain... and found that shin splints result when muscles, tendons, and bone tissue become overworked (walking for miles and miles across DC). And WebMD says it’s caused by wearing shoes that don’t fit well or provide good support (ummmmmm flip flops). I hate to admit it. Our first day in DC- my husband questioned my footwear and asked why I didn’t bring my sneakers. I said my flips were more comfortable. 😬 Well, lesson learned. I’ll leave the flips for trips to the pool on vaca but not for sightseeing trips... especially when I will be walking from one end of a city to the other!

However, I am still rocking my flips for everyday wear. It’s not Halloween yet.
