Morning Make up No More?

As most of you probably know- FiOS 1 News is going off the air. This week is our last one. So I decided to blog everyday this week about a different aspect of working on the morning news. So for Monday— I’m talking about the morning grind... or the middle-of-the-night grind for you non-morning newsers.

My alarm goes off at 12:55am everyday. Then 1am... then 1:05am... 1:10am... then finally 1:15am (that’s the “you better get up or you’re going to be late” alarm). If you factor in my part time adjunct jobs (LIU Post and RCC), my 3 kids, basketball practice, tennis practice and religion classes.... I don’t get much sleep. My husband usually works nights... so I am the chauffeur, homework helper, shower supervisor and bedtime bully! All of that means my planned 8pm bedtime usually turns into a 9pm bedtime... so 4 hours of sleep 😴 Then there’s always confusion because when I’m leaving for work- my husband is just going to bed! So we have conversations like Me: “The boys have to go to extra help this morning.” Husband: ”We’ll get up early tomorrow.” Is it tomorrow or today? Depends who you ask!

Soooo my morning routine consists of a quick shower... then wet hair goes in a bun and i drive to work sans make up. I told my husband I don’t know how I’m going to get ready without the FiOS make up mirrors! It’s where I perfected the art of putting on fake eyelashes while catching up on the latest news (switching between CNN and Fox News to get ALL the angles 🤣). But, more importantly, it’s where I’ve formed friendships while exchanging hair and make up tips.

It will be strange on Monday when my alarm doesn‘t go off at 12:55am. I‘m kind of happy about that... to actually get a full night’s sleep... but I’m sure my eyes will open in the middle of the night... every 5 minutes... wondering why my body isn’t getting out of bed.
